As Julie Hooper, MPH, RD, wisely elucidates: "Alcohol isn't a carbohydrate. Alcohol itself isn't metabolized as sugar. While it stems from carbs, fermentation transforms sugar into ethyl alcohol and CO2.

Neither of these fermentation products is a carbohydrate, thus not processed as one. Alcohol metabolism overrides that of carbs, protein, and fat. Liver cells detoxify alcohol, with acetate becoming Acetyl CoA, crafting fatty acids.

In my ketosis state, my liver prioritizes breaking down alcohol's trace quantities. And with no carbs to manage, my liver isn't dealing with sugar overload post-alcohol.”
